Preparing to install luxury vinyl flooring
2024-09-09
LVT flooring (Luxury Vinyl Tile flooring) is a highly popular new type of flooring, with its textured and realistic woodgrain patterns, making it the ideal choice for decorating any room. Installing LVT flooring is not difficult, just following the correct steps, and you can easily complete this task.
What is a subfloor?
It is essential to have a correct understanding of the subfloor before installing LVT flooring. The subfloor is installed below the flooring and is usually a thin, high-density substrate, such as concrete or wood panels. Additionally, ensure that the surface of the subfloor is flat, dry and smooth (clean with a wood cleaner if necessary). If there are any uneven areas on the subfloor, level them to ensure that the LVT flooring can be installed completely flat.
LVT flooring be installed on uneven floors?
The short answer is "no"! Remember that the work of the subfloor is crucial because if the subfloor is not good, the final appearance will not be good either. Before installing LVT flooring, you must ensure that the uneven ground is leveled with self-leveling flooring materials. If you do not level it, not only will the appearance of the LVT floor be severely damaged, but unprecedented dangers will also be hidden in it.
How to install the luxury vinyl tiles?
LVT flooring uses the common click-install method. Like other flooring, you need to measure the area of the room and determine the number of LVT flooring required. When measuring, be sure to take the height of the door frame and the hinge position into account.
- Remove all furniture in the room and any existing vinyl or carpet floor coverings.
- Before thoroughly sweeping and vacuuming the subfloor, check for nails and nail strips.
- Repair any damage, such as holes or cracks in the subfloor (this can be done with repair mortar).
- Perform the required subfloor work to ensure that the subfloor is perfectly flat.
- The planks/tiles can be cut using a utility knife (hook knife or straight knife). Follow the instructions on the adhesive and use an A2 spatula to apply the adhesive in a thin layer and butt each tile against the next (keep a damp cloth nearby to wipe off any excess glue that flows out of the seams).
Does the vinyl flooring need to acclimatise?
Before installing LVT flooring, you need to acclimatize the LVT flooring to the proper humidity and temperature. Place the LVT flooring in a ventilated area of the room and place it on a flat surface to acclimatize to the ambient temperature and humidity. For LVT flooring used in hot areas or high humidity environments, more care should be taken during installation to ensure that the LVT flooring is acclimatized in the correct manner.
